UICNMR MAG RES
Spectrometer Reservation Ssytem
Help Notes
The UICNMR Spectrometer Schedules and Calendars may be accessed ONLY
by authorized users from authorized computers. Unauthorized
users should see the
DEMO of Scheduling Software.
Reserving and Unreserving time:
- If the time when the schedule was last updated on your browser (the time shown in red
at the top of the schedule) is not very recent, then click on Refresh Schedule
to reload the most recent schedule.
- To reserve/unreserve time, you MUST type in your
Login and PassWord (PW).
- To sign up for time, click on the square next to the time period
that you want to reserve.
Time periods start at the time specified in the left column and last for 10 minutes.
- To cancel your reservation, click on the square next to your name
for the time period that you want to unreserve. You may NOT
cancel reservations made by other users.
Time periods start at the time specified in the left column and last for 10 minutes.
- You may reserve/unreserve the entire "clock hour" (e.g., 8am-8:59am)
by clicking on the button in the right column.
To reserve parts of two different clock hours, click on the individual 10-minute
time period buttons.
- You may also type in the START and END time of your request at the beginning
of the schedule. Accepted times are "1:00" to "12:50" in 10-minute increments.
Also specify "add" or "delete", and "am" or "pm". For example, the following request
will reserve the entire evening (until 7:59 the next morning):
add delete
START: 8:00 pm
END: 7:50 am
- To submit your schedule request, click on Submit Request.
- The schedule program will ACCEPT your request and show you the new schedule, or
it will REJECT your request and explain why this occured.
Reasons why your schedule request can be REJECTED:
- You didn't accurately type your Login or PassWord.
- You tried to delete a reservation made by another user.
- The schedule that you were using was out of date, and another
user has already reserved the same time that you wanted to reserve.
If you encounter this problem, the program
will automatically reload the most recent schedule.
To avoid this problem, Click on Refresh Schedule BEFORE you start to reserve/unreserve
time.
- The Schedule is processing a request by another user. Each schedule request
requires a few moments of computer processing, during which time no other user
may also submit a request. If you encounter this problem, just try again; the
request that was being processed will probably be finished before your second try.
If you consistiently have difficulty submitting a reservation, contact the NMR Facility
Staff---the web server may have crashed, causing access problems.
- You tried to type in the START and END times, but:
- you specified only a START or END time, but not both.
- you typed in characters other than digits and the ":" character for the START or END times.
- you typed in a time that has hours > 12 or minutes > 59.
- you didn't specify "am" or "pm" for the START and END times.
- you didn't specify "add" or "delete".
- your end time preceeds your start time. Note that the schedule's day starts at 8:00 am
and ends at 7:50 am the next morning. Therefore, requests such as "starting at 7:00 am and ending at 8:00 am"
are not accepted, since 7:00 am is 23 hours after 8:00 am. You can reserve "7:00 am to 7:59am"
by starting at 7:00 am and ending at 7:50 am.
Other Features:
- You can change your MAG RES Password
to any combination of letters and numbers that is less than 9 characters.
- To change the day of the schedule, click on the Schedule Date (the
date shown to the right of the "Go To"" text) and select the previous day or the next day.
IMMEDIATELY click on Submit Request to load the schedule for the new day. DO NOT request
time for this NEW day on the displayed schedule without clicking on Submit Request.
You MUST reload the schedule for this new day.
- To change the selected spectrometer, click on the spectrometer name
(at the absolute top of the schedule) and select a different spectrometer.
IMMEDIATELY click on Submit Request to load the schedule for this new spectrometer. DO NOT request
time for this NEW spectroemter on the displayed schedule without clicking on Submit Request.
You MUST reload the schedule for this new spectrometer.
- To view the calendar, click on View Calendar.
- To view the current activity on the spectrometer, click on Current Activity.
A reservation is forfeited if the spectrometer is idle for >5 minutes from the start of the reservation.
The schedule will not show this forfeiture, and this forfeited time
cannot be scheduled by another user. The spectrometer is then available on a first-come first-served basis.
- The probe that will be in the spectrometer magnet is also listed on the schedule. If you require
a different probe for your experiment, contact the NMR Facility Staff before making your reservation
to arrange for this probe change.
Spectrometer Calendars
- The Calendar shows if each entire day is RESERVED
or OPEN. If only part of a day has been reserved,
then no comment will appear. The calendar may also show notes
regarding the type of probe or other conditions for the spectrometer
scheduled for each day.
- You can load the Schedule for a particular day by clicking on Schedule.
- You can change the month of the Calendar at the bottom of the Calendar page.
Only the previous month, the current month, and the next 10 months can be accessed.
For example, if the current month is November 1997, and you click on
View September on the October 1997 Calendar, you will view the September 1998
Calendar, not the September 1997 Calendar. Similarly, if the current month is November 1997, and you click on
View October on the September 1998 Calendar, you will view the October 1997 Calendar,
not the October1998 Calendar.
While this is a "bug" in the program, it can be
faster to cycle through months in the "wrong" direction due to this "bug".
- Only the NMR Facility Staff and other authorized users may edit
the Calendar. If you would like to reserve an entire day, please contact the NMR
Facility Staff.
